I must admit, I didn't have high expectations after reading some of the reviews. I have 4 other Miter saws but none of them have the ability to do compound cuts both left and right so I used that as an excuse to buy this one.
I was pleasantly surprised. This tool is much larger than it looks in the pictures, it is 34 inches front to back and the slide bars are a hefty 1' diameter. It seems to be well made. The frame seems to be stiffer and resists deflection better than any other inexpensive sliding miter saws I have looked. The product description says it has dual laser lines, that must be why this saw was on sale, they forgot to install one of the emitters, it actually only has one laser light emitter but it seems to have 2 mounting positions; I think it can be set up to line up with either edge of the blade, although I haven't taken the time to play with it. The controls are well placed and the motor and gear train are quieter than I expected. The angled motor not only provides clearance for tilting to the right but also gives you a good unobstructed view of the cut line, especially if you are left handed.
I haven't seen anything for less than $400 that has the features and solid construction of this tool. You are getting 56 pounds of saw and framework. This is not a lightweight tool with thin cast webbing supports; it has solid aluminum and steel where it needs it.
I don't expect an inexpensive tool to match the smoothness and refinement of a $600 Makita, DeWalt or Hitachi, but this one comes close and at a cost of between $90 and present price of $180 I don't think this saw has any competition. It is a lot of saw for the money.
I am very satisfied with this saw. I almost did not order this saw just because of the reviewer that claimed it would not chop a 2x4, it really would be silly if it could not do this - but the saw I received will chop 2x4's just fine.
I have never used any of the more expensive miter saws, I did have a cheaper one from Harbor Freight, but it got stolen before I got to use it much. I chose this one instead of another one from Harbor Freight because they did not offer one with both the dual bevel and dual laser features. The cheapest sliding miter saws with both these features are usually twice (or more) what this one cost, especially if you can get this one when Amazon is also offering some sort of promotional discount.
My saw arrived in good condition and everything appeared to be included so I proceeded with seting it up. I mounted it on a Port-A-Mate PM3800 that I already had and followed all the instructions in the manual. I have found that the saw will cut accurately, but it requires more attention to get it set just right than I assume more expensive saws would require. The only problem so far is that after performing the setup operations and following all the instructions, it only had one laser line showing on the workpiece. So, I reviewed the instructions again and this is when I realized that the saw does not come with a detailed parts diagram.
I requested a replacement product from Amazon expecting to get one with both laser emitters, but it also has only one laser. I was disappointed but decided to keep the saw after I realized that the one laser that it did have is adjustable.
So, I fixed the single/right laser to accurately indicate the cut line on the first saw and returned the replacement unused. If it is important to get both right/left lasers then do not order this saw, otherwise it seems like a good tool for the money. My wife and I decided to have wood flooring put into one of our rooms and after checking around, we figured we (I) could do the job myself and save a ton of money. I decided that the Sliding Compound Miter Saw with laser was just the tool to make sure I would cut the wood pieces correctly. And we were right. This saw has got to be one of the BEST out there for the price. I looked at other brands and most of them were close to twice the price for the same type of saw. Using this saw was very easy, the laser really helps to make sure you make your cuts right on the mark.
Changing the cutting blade was also an easy job and the directions in the manual were spot on for anything and everything that needed to be learned. The action of the compound miter was so accurate, the various joints and corners came out seemlessly. And for someone like me, who is not one that does much of this type of work, the saw made the flooring job really easy and the room now looks fantastic. I highly recommend this saw to anyone looking for an item like this. I did a lot of research on miter saws and was very excited about this one, so I ordered it. It's not as great as some of my research suggested, but for the money it's an ok saw.
Actually, I ended up looking at two of these models because the first one had three problems (one major one) and amazon replaced it (very quickly and easily I might add). The problems were: 1. (most important) the blade wobbled quite badly and it tore the heck out of the wood for every cut. It's not a great blade to begin with, but I suspect the problem was that the shaft on the motor was bent.
The blade guard caught on the front of the table near the miter adjustment when the saw was slid forward and pulled down. The blade didn't go very far below the table no matter how I tried to adjust it. In fact, when not in slide mode (the slide mechanism locked), the saw would not cut all the way through a 3 1/2' piece of wood, meaning any 2x4 of course.
So, the only way to cut 2x4s is in slide mode, which is ok but slows things down considerably. The replacement saw did not have problems 1 and 2 above, but its cutting depth was identical.
So, apparently the saw is designed that way, which, if you ask me, is a fundamental and terrible flaw for a chop saw. A chop saw ought to be able to cut through a 2x4 with a simple chop motion. And this one is not designed to do so. In the end I'll keep the saw. The price is very good, and in slide mode it can cut boards as wide as 11'. Both saws came accurately aligned, both the blade and the fences, out of the box.
And I think I'll be able to do a lot with it, though I'll get a better blade for it soon. This saw is inexpensive, and it's not as beefy or sturdy as ones twice its price, like a Dewalt. And the 2x4 problem will always be an irritation. But I'm also happy to not spend $5-600 for a saw that will do a lot and is a lot better than really cheap saws like Chicago tools.
I've been using this saw for a few years now and it's pretty good for the money. The compound sliding mechanism is very versatile and works great.

Price was great and it came with a bonus rotating laser level. The 'bad' is that the locking mechanism for angle adjustments on the table is completely useless. It does not lock at all even after cranking the knob.
Gmc Miter Saw Manual
I rely on the detents to hold the table in place. For odd angles i just remember to check it once in a while.
Over all, a decent item for the price but no contractor should buy this item for sure. I think this unit was better than similar inexpensive ones from say Harbor Freight. While this saw boasts all the features one could ask for, the quality is lacking in areas that affect the accuracy of cuts and the operation. Typical of poor quality Chinese tools, the castings do not line up accurately, making some of them unusable (such as the right side fence).
There are bolt holes without bolts. The miter lock is easily bumped off it's setting. The alloy metal housing is soft like plastic.
The laser worked for about 2 minutes. Other than these annoyances, this is a lot of saw for the money. Remove the supplied blade and install a good quality 60 tooth miter saw blade. Buy this saw very cheaply, or you won't like it.
